IMAGINE IT ALL

IMAGINE IT ALL

$65.00Price

Imagine It All. For decades, this location was an iconic spot in Los Angeles where kids and adults alike could dream, play, laugh and believe in the magic of imagination. In the summer of 2007 I was invited to photograph the inside of the theater.  As soon as I stepped through the door, I could literally see and feel that time had stood still. There was a large, single level room that was both the stage and where the audience sat. There were beautiful chandeliers lit the room, but it was the original stage lights and gels that had been there for-ever that made the room hug you with a safe feeling. The back room was filled with of records, background sound tapes, VHS tapes and piles and piles of papers. I loved walking around while the puppeteers were rehearsing. I remember being surprised to see a real crowd outside waiting for the late afternoon show. Everyone was smiling and really eager to get inside. I was very new at being a photographer when I was there, but knew this place was special.

In 2018, I included this location in the Los Angeles series. It took me several tries because cars were always parked right out front. I was only able to take this photograph because road was being worked on.  That was lucky for me, but what was not lucky... it was now a single traffic lane. And that meant I had to stand on an active street in Los Angeles - and that is no joke. Adding to the tension, I  work with a view camera and  it always takes time to get things level and in focus. I know a few drivers were super confused by me standing there, but I finally took the photograph I had always wanted to take. Only a few months later, this location was closed forever.
