MODERN MONA LISA - Labeled Los Angeles by Ashley Noelle

My Modern Mona Lisa. Anais is my forever muse. She has been my light test model since she was about 8 years old, something she’s always loved to do. Now Anais is a stand in for Oliva Rodrigo, so it was good practice. I’ve been so lucky to have a beautiful, ballerina type daughter that was always up for whatever crazy idea popped in my mind.

For this photograph, I had found that table in an alley in Beverly Hills. It’s super weathered and inspired me to do something classic. I made a little set in-studio and styled with a vintage dress I had thrifted. The hair and makeup for these random sessions is always me just doing something fast and hoping for the best. We only did about 30 frames and I knew I had what I wanted. There were actually several images that I really liked from this work.

One day, I was printing a bunch of work and for some reason I set this print on a painting I had, more for the frame than the painting. I immediately liked the way the colors of the painting supported the contrast of the print. I sealed the print onto the painting and now this work is a part of my personal collection.

I photographed with my Cambo View Camera, 80mm Hasselbald lens and a Canon Mark lll capture.

When I was designing the first of few t-shirts for Labeled Los Angeles I knew I wanted to include this work. Please visit the site to see the other work available as everyday Los Angeles streetwear.
